World Music Wednesdays
Hierarchy & Structure

With just one PDF, hierarchy and structure is implemented to showcase the Old Town School of Folk Music’ August line-up

Project Information

Project Overview

Old Town School of Folk Music has asked our typeface-designers to create their August line-up posters to promote all over Chicago. They gave us one PDF document to create something that will attract both current and new audience members to enjoy cultural and traditional music

Our Client

Old Town School of Folk Music is a non-profit organization offering music and cultural education through live performances, courses, and events for all ages and backgrounds.

The Right Theme

The theme based on our client’s mission and the artist’ performances has the list of the following: education and excitement. I believed these two were the best themes to become a strong infographic design

Challenge and Problem

The potential problem was using a fixed composition for posters and advertisements could lead to information overload for viewers due to the heavy amount of text

Approaching the Grid Layout

Taking on multiple problems are not restraints but rather, an opportunity to use limits as a way to design smarter

Typeface and Hierarchy

Choosing the right typeface and hierarchy is crucial for the overall composition of the project, allowing for clear focal points and easy intake for the viewer

Background Elements

Added graphical elements in the form of abstract music notes were used to enhance the poster's visual appeal, while the color peach-sun was chosen to represent the month of August

Abstract Musical Notes
Brace and Pause Design

Where two are connected to play together in a system that's simultaneous

Abstract Musical Notes
Crescendo & Growing Design

Music where volume and sound increases to show the increasing tension, power, and force for both dancers and music

Abstract Musical Notes
Clef and Note Design

Clef notes provides specific notes in lines and spaces and I believe Indie music does a great job utilizing clef notes

Abstract Musical Notes
Fortissimo and Octave Design

Very loud, but utilizing an octave range to either dance very loudly or sing very loudly in different ranges to show explosion
